About Ineso Lati Èkó
Ineso, a family name originating in the country of Benin Republic (west of Nigeria), that found its way to Èkó. "Lati Èkó" in Yoruba translates to "from Lagos". Èkó was settled by the Yoruba people during the fourteenth century, who established a coastal village and named it Èkó. Around 1760, the Portuguese arrived and settled for the purpose of "trade", eventually renaming the village Lagos after a coastal city in Portugal.
Since around 2006, vivid images have been taking shape in my mind. My art is deeply inspired by the vibrant city of Èkó. Èkó is bold, loud, daring, and brash—characteristics that are reflected in my art.
Eyes play a prominent role in most of my art pieces. They possess a remarkable power, granting abstract constructs a "personality" or a "persona." There is a reason why babies are drawn to eyes. As a viewer, you observe Ineso's art, but remember that Ineso's art is always gazing right back at you!
